A música GET UP STAND UP foi escrita por Bob Marley e Peter Tosh, ambos cantores de Reggae jamaicanos. É cantada por Bob Marley e a banda também jamaicana The Wailers, da qual fazia parte. A música é a primeira faixa do álbum BURNIN’ no ano de 1973. O público alvo é diversas pessoas que se interessam pelo ritmo das músicas de Bob Marley, o Reggae e também pela religião à qual ele seguia, o Rastafári. Eu gosto muito desse estilo de música e concordo com as letras das músicas de Bob Marley e suas atitudes. Algumas coisas que ele fazia não são tão atraentes para mim, mas eu respeito.

A crítica desta música é que todos nós deveríamos lutar pelo que acreditamos como na primeira linha da música “Get up, stand up: stand up for your rights!” que significa: “Levante, resista: lute pelos seus direitos!”.

A música aborda as questões militares no continente africano e é feita na letra de forma direta e indireta. É trazida também à tona a religião deles, o Rastafarianismo, só que de uma forma mais indireta que nos faz refletir sobre tudo o que está ao nosso redor.
